Congressman Burchett Comments On Investigation
Today, we’re diving into a story that has everyone buzzing. The FBI is in the spotlight after conducting 200 interviews and reviewing 14,000 images but still not finding a clear motive behind the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania. This incident has sparked a lot of questions and controversy.
Rep. Tim Burchett from Tennessee, a member of the House Oversight Committee, isn’t holding back his skepticism. He told Fox News Digital that he finds it hard to believe federal investigators have no motive yet.
"I'm not buying that they have nothing," he said. Burchett's trust in the current administration seems shaken, and he emphasized the need for quick, transparent answers to prevent conspiracy theories from spreading.
In response, the House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. She has agreed to comply, and a hearing is scheduled for July 22. The Committee is pressing for answers regarding the attempted assassination and the perceived failures of the Secret Service. The urgency for answers is palpable, with the Committee stating, "Americans demand and deserve answers from Director Cheatle about the attempted assassination of President Trump and the Secret Service's egregious failures."
Meanwhile, FBI Director Christopher Wray shared some details with Congress. He revealed that the suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, used his cellphone to search for images of President Biden and Trump, as well as symptoms of depressive disorder before the incident. Crooks had visited the rally site in Butler, Pennsylvania, at least once before the shooting, raising more questions about his intentions and planning.
Despite these details, the FBI has been tight-lipped about potential motives. They declined to comment on any motive theories or respond to lawmakers' comments. This silence has only fueled more speculation and frustration among those demanding answers.
The tragic incident claimed the life of Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old father of two and former fire chief, who heroically shielded his wife and daughters. Two others, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, were seriously wounded and are recovering in the hospital.
Crooks, who was neutralized by Secret Service snipers, set up on a roof overlooking the rally, less than 150 yards from where Trump was speaking. The circumstances of how he entered the building and fired multiple shots are still under investigation. This has led to some finger-pointing between the Secret Service and local police.
Further digging by Fox News Digital revealed that Crooks, who would have turned 21 in September, had no criminal record or traffic citations. He was a registered Republican and had only voted in the Nov. 8, 2022, state election.
