Congressman Gets Support Online For Stance
Elon Musk has confirmed he will financially support Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), signaling a deepening rift between populist GOP leadership and the party’s dwindling bloc of fiscal conservatives.
Musk’s pledge came in response to a series of posts on X, where he criticized Republican lawmakers who voted for President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill—a sweeping legislative package that passed the House in May. The bill significantly expands federal spending and includes a $5 trillion debt ceiling increase. Massie was one of just two Republicans to vote against it.
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” Musk wrote. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
My campaign is fueled by the grassroots donors on this map; 3,417 of you donated $308,665 last week. Thank you!

Former Rep. Justin Amash urged Musk to act on his rhetoric, encouraging him to back Massie, whom he described as “a genuine fiscal conservative.” Musk responded simply: “I will.” When another user mentioned donating to Massie’s campaign and asked, “Who’s next?” Musk replied, “Me.”
Massie confirmed the support in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying Musk’s leadership of X has already helped his campaign by giving him direct access to voters and the ability to circumvent traditional media narratives. “It’s allowed me to bypass conventional media to refute the lies of both political parties,” Massie said. “Elon’s financial assistance will help me continue my mission as an independent voice in Congress.”
Massie’s opposition to the Iran strikes—calling them unconstitutional—and his refusal to back the One Big Beautiful Bill have placed him squarely in the crosshairs of GOP leadership. President Trump has launched a multi-day barrage of posts on Truth Social attacking Massie, calling him a “pathetic LOSER” and promising to campaign against him in the Kentucky primary.
Despite the pressure from Trump and the GOP establishment, Massie appears to be gaining momentum. He announced that his campaign raised more than $308,000 from over 3,400 donors in a single week, crediting a growing wave of grassroots support.
