Four States Deal With Emergency Line Outage

Residents in parts of Nebraska, Texas, and the entire state of South Dakota are currently experiencing a large-scale outage that has affected their ability to call the 911 emergency number. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety also confirmed that the entire state is affected by this outage. However, they assured residents that in most parts of the state, they could still text 911 and call their local police and sheriff offices on non-emergency lines.

This is not the first time a widespread outage has affected emergency services. In February, an outage with AT&T temporarily cut off connections for users across the United States. This left FirstNet, the emergency communications network, out of service, which disrupted the ability to make emergency calls for several hours.
