Homan Gives Update During Sunday Morning Interview
In less than two weeks, the Trump administration has already delivered a stunning reversal of the border crisis that plagued the previous four years. According to Border Czar Tom Homan, illegal crossings have dropped a staggering 93% since President Trump returned to office—an even greater reduction than during his first administration.
Homan, speaking on Sunday Morning Futures, laid out the facts in blunt terms. “We’ve got the numbers this morning. The crossings on the border are down 93%—that’s a bigger decrease than under the first Trump administration,” he announced. It’s a statistic that underscores a simple but powerful reality: strong leadership and clear policies work.

From day one, the administration made it clear that the border is closed, sending a message to both illegal migrants and the cartels that exploited weak enforcement policies under Biden. Homan credited Trump’s leadership as the defining factor in this turnaround. “President Trump’s the game-changer,” he said. “No one has had the success he’s had in securing the border.”
But the administration isn’t stopping there. In addition to stemming the flow of illegal crossings, deportation operations have ramped up immediately. Homan reported that 5,000 individuals were arrested in the first week alone—most of them criminals.
For those worried about so-called “non-criminal” arrests, Homan pointed out an inconvenient truth: many of those individuals were found in sanctuary cities, places where local governments refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. When law enforcement is forced to track down criminals in communities instead of removing them from jails, they inevitably encounter and arrest additional illegal immigrants in the process.
The message is clear: sanctuary cities are no longer going to be a safe haven for illegal immigration. “If you want to be a sanctuary city, you’re going to get more agents in the community,” Homan warned. In other words, local governments that choose to defy federal immigration law will no longer get a free pass—federal enforcement will simply work around them.
These results speak for themselves. After years of record-breaking illegal crossings, the tide has turned almost overnight. The strategy is simple: enforce the law, remove those who have no legal right to be here, and send a clear message to the world that the border is not open for business.
And just like that, the chaos at the southern border is being brought under control—proving once again that leadership and decisive action can achieve results where political posturing cannot.
