Jimmy Kimmel Guest Cancels Following Melania WHCD Remark
What was supposed to be a routine late-night appearance quickly unraveled. Mentalist Oz Pearlman will no longer appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Monday night, despite being booked as a guest. The reversal comes in the immediate aftermath of a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and a growing political firestorm surrounding host Jimmy Kimmel.
Pearlman had been at the center of the chaos just days earlier. He was performing for President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump inside the Washington Hilton when gunfire erupted outside the ballroom. In a detailed account shared online, Pearlman described the moment as disorienting and sudden, with confusion giving way to immediate action as Secret Service agents moved in.
He said he initially thought an explosive device had gone off before realizing shots had been fired. Attendees were ordered to the ground. Pearlman recalled lying just feet from the president during the incident, describing it as the most frightening experience of his life.
Authorities later identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Allen, who now faces multiple federal charges, including attempted assassination of the president.
The shooting has since collided with an already tense media environment. Kimmel had drawn criticism days earlier for a segment mocking the Correspondents’ Dinner, including a line directed at the first lady that drew sharp backlash.
Following the shooting, Melania Trump issued a pointed response, accusing Kimmel of spreading divisive and harmful rhetoric into American homes. She argued that his remarks crossed beyond comedy and contributed to a broader climate of hostility.
President Trump reinforced that stance in a separate statement, calling for Kimmel’s immediate removal from his show. He characterized the comedian’s comments as dangerous and unacceptable, escalating pressure on ABC and its parent company, Disney.
Pearlman’s withdrawal from the show lands squarely in the middle of that fallout. While no formal reason has been publicly confirmed, the timing aligns closely with both the shooting and the political response that followed. ABC has since updated its guest lineup, listing “Pod Save America” host Jon Lovett as Kimmel’s replacement guest.
Kimmel has not publicly responded to the latest controversy. The late-night host previously faced suspension after remarks tied to another high-profile act of violence, a decision that triggered advertiser backlash and calls for boycotts. When he returned to air, he declined to issue a full apology, stating only that he did not intend to make light of a killing.
