Kamala Harris Calls Voter Roll Purges Cheating While Pushing 2028 Bid

Kamala Harris told a Detroit crowd on September 23 that stopping non-citizens from voting counts as cheating. She spoke at an NAACP event while using a new way of speaking that some call a "blaccent." She claimed that removing hundreds of thousands of people from voter rolls is actually the real fraud.

Her team says they are creative people who will fight back against these efforts. She told the room that opponents are cheating by purging voter rolls. This comment came as she discussed her plans for the future.

RedState reported that her performance included a laugh and a reference to Shirley Chisholm. She referenced the idea that if you are not at the table, you might end up on the menu. The outlet also noted she joked while conflating two people. These remarks suggest she is already running for president in 2028.


While Harris speaks in Detroit, Senator Jim Banks is acting to stop foreign nationals from getting federal aid. He introduced the "Pell for Americans Act" on Wednesday morning. Requiring Pell Grant recipients to be U.S. citizens would be a change enacted by this bill to the Higher Education Act of 1965.

The program faces a huge money problem that could hurt American students soon. According to Breitbart, the Congressional Budget Office forecasts that the Pell Grant program will reach $5 billion in debt by this fiscal year's end. Should no changes occur, that debt may swell to a range between $104 billion and $132 billion over the next ten years.

Senator Banks said his bill is modeled after one Democrats wrote in 1994. He added that American taxpayers have no business paying for foreign students. His office told Breitbart News that the bill aims to put American students first.


Harris argued that leaders must tell people to check their registration status. She warned that folks might have been purged from the rolls by others. Some critics argue this creates dirty voter rolls full of ineligible people. They ask why thirty states and Washington, D.C. hide their voter rolls from the federal government.

RedState noted that Harris was joined by Michigan senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. The outlet described El-Sayed as looking miserable while Harris spoke. He called the moment "Vintage Kamala."


The candidate has faced questions about his past comments on health funding. El-Sayed previously called breast cancer funding "disturbing." The pairing of these two figures has drawn sharp criticism from conservative observers who question their focus on American families.

The financial strain on the Pell Grant program is a major concern for lawmakers. The program received a one-time boost of $10.5 billion last year under President Donald Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." Despite this boost, the projected shortfall remains a serious issue for the next decade.


Banks wants to ensure the aid goes only to Americans. He believes the current rules allow refugees, asylees, and parolees to receive funds that should go to citizens. His bill would close this gap and protect the money for U.S. undergraduates.

The debate centers on who gets to use taxpayer money for college. Harris frames voter roll checks as an attack on her party. Banks frames Pell Grant access as a choice between Americans and foreigners. Both issues are likely to dominate the news as the 2028 election approaches.
