Kamala Harris Gives Remarks At AI Conference
Well, folks, Kamala Harris is at it again—this time, delivering another one of her trademark meandering, head-scratching speeches, this time at an AI conference. And somehow, in a conversation that was supposed to be about innovation, she managed to make it all about… Doritos. Yes, you read that right.
Harris, who has a well-documented history of indulging in nacho cheese-flavored self-care (like the time she admitted to stress-eating Doritos after Trump won in 2016), brought up the snack again while trying to make a point about consumer behavior and technology. The setup? She used DoorDash to get a bag of chips before the Oscars. The takeaway? Well, that part was a little less clear.
“We did DoorDash ’cause I wanted Doritos,” she explained. “And the red carpet part was about to start and nobody wanted to leave to go to the grocery store. So it was DoorDash … So I was willing to give up whatever might be the tracking of Kamala Harris’ particular fondness for nacho cheese Doritos for the sake of getting a big bag of Doritos as I watched the Oscars.”
Now, if you’re wondering where the conversation was supposed to be going, you’re not alone. Even the CEO of Feedzai, Nuno Sebastiao, who was leading the discussion, had to step in and suggest that maybe she was trying to talk about consumer behavior.
That seemed to spark something in Harris, who then launched into another classic word salad:
“And that’s right. But here’s the thing. At what point do we also uplift and highlight the consumer’s right to also expect — and you can debate with me if it should be a right — I think it should. To expect that the innovation would also be weighted in terms of solving their everyday problems, which are beyond my craving for Doritos, but about whatever — and I know the work is happening — around, you know, scientific discoveries, for example. To cure long-standing diseases.”
Got all that? No? That’s okay—neither did anyone else.
But she wasn’t done. In a surprising pivot from snack food to serious policy, she suddenly declared, “I would love it if there would be an investment of resources in solving the affordable housing issue in America. Like help me with that. Help me with that.”
Yes, Kamala Harris, who was vice president for four years, is now asking tech leaders to help her with housing affordability.
Look, Harris has long been known for her unique ability to turn a simple question into a verbal obstacle course. And this latest moment fits right in with her greatest hits—like the time she rambled about “the significance of the passage of time” or the time she tried to explain inflation by talking about how expensive things are getting.
It’s no wonder that during her short-lived 2024 presidential campaign, Democratic strategists were openly concerned about her ability to communicate. If this speech was any indication, those concerns were well-founded.
