Michigan Mayor Makes Statement After Trump Visit
The Democrats’ attempt to maintain a firm grip on Michigan in 2024 just hit a serious roadblock, and it’s one they likely didn’t see coming. Despite working overtime to keep key voting blocs like Muslim Americans in their corner—especially in light of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas—it seems their efforts are faltering.
A major blow came from the heart of Hamtramck, Michigan, the nation’s only Muslim-majority city, where its Democratic mayor just publicly endorsed Donald Trump for president.

Amer Ghalib, the mayor of Hamtramck, shocked many when he announced his endorsement for Trump in a Facebook post. Ghalib didn’t sugarcoat his decision, calling Trump "the right choice for this critical time." Although he admitted that he and Trump don’t see eye to eye on everything, Ghalib described the former president as "a man of principles" and expressed no regrets about his decision.
Ghalib’s endorsement wasn’t a casual nod either—this came after a private 20-minute conversation with Trump in Flint, where the two reportedly discussed various matters. Ghalib later revealed that Trump was surprisingly well-versed in the mayor’s background, adding weight to his decision.

This endorsement couldn’t come at a worse time for Kamala Harris and her campaign. Arab American voters, particularly those in Michigan, are frustrated with the Democratic Party’s stance on the Gaza conflict, where they see an administration unwilling to criticize Israel’s actions.
In fact, many had feared that Muslim Americans might opt to stay home during the election, dissatisfied with the current administration. But now, with Ghalib’s high-profile endorsement of Trump, there’s a real chance some may shift their support entirely.

The endorsement signals deeper troubles for the Harris campaign. The media has often tried to position her as a skilled and capable candidate, but cracks are beginning to show. Her inability to secure the trust of critical Democratic constituencies—like the Muslim-American community in Michigan—reveals a vulnerability that could cost the Democrats a key battleground state.
