Moment In Biden BET Interview Creates Discussion
Let's dive into the latest buzz surrounding President Joe Biden, which has the internet and political circles buzzing. A clip from a recent BET interview has gone viral, showing Biden stumbling over Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's name and referring to him as "the Black man." This snippet has sparked a flurry of reactions online.
In the interview, part of a special called Black America Votes that aired on Wednesday, Biden said: "And so, it's all about, it's all about treating people with dignity. It's about making sure that—look. I mean, for example, look at the heat I'm getting because I named uh, the secretary of defense, the Black man, I named Ketanji Brown, I mean, because of the people I've named."
The longer clip also includes his mention of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, whom he nominated to the Supreme Court in February 2022.
President Biden: 'The Black Man, Uh...Ketanji Brown.'.
Joe Biden is struggling to remember the name of his Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin. Biden referred to Austin as 'the black man' then mentions Ketanji Brown Jackson, a black Female Supreme Court Justice.

Newsweek has reached out to Biden's campaign team for a comment on the incident, which comes at a time when his health and cognitive ability are under intense scrutiny. This latest gaffe adds to a series of public missteps since his challenging performance in the first presidential debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta on June 27.
Just last week, Biden made another notable error, referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as "Putin" during a speech about U.S. support for Ukraine. “And now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,”
Biden said before quickly correcting himself. Zelensky took the mistake in stride, humorously responding, "I'm better," to which Biden replied, "You're a hell of a lot better."
Nothing says “dignity” quite like referring to the Secretary of Defense as “the Black man.”

Despite these gaffes and growing concerns within his party, Biden has firmly stated that he will not step down from the presidential race. In the BET interview, when asked if he would reconsider his candidacy under certain conditions, Biden said he would step down if a medical condition emerged that significantly affected his ability to serve.
This interview comes as Biden's health has taken another turn with a positive COVID-19 test, leading to the cancellation of his appearance at a UnidosUS event in Las Vegas, Nevada. This development takes Biden off the campaign trail at a crucial time, amid weeks of calls from within his party for him to consider stepping aside.
