OOPS: Chicago's New 'Defund' Mayor Chokes When Asked About Raising Taxes
If you're a taxpayer in Chicago, you're probably feeling like you're getting the shaft. Incoming Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson has been promising to increase community services like health care and youth employment in order to reduce crime. But when asked how he plans to pay for these services, Johnson dodges the question.
Yes, Johnson has said he's not going to raise property taxes, but he's also said he'll find the revenue from individuals that have the means to contribute to a safer city. In other words, he's going to raise taxes in some other way, most likely on the wealthy.
At this point, it's become painfully clear that weak on crime Democrats like Johnson are all talk and no action. They keep promising to reduce crime and make the city safer, but all they ever do is raise taxes – and it's always on the working class taxpayers.
Take a look at what Johnson said on CBS News when he was asked how he plans to pay for his plans:
"I'm not gonna raise property taxes. That's been the lazy form of governance for a very long time in the city of Chicago and, quite frankly, around the country. The words that President Biden indicated in his [State of the] Union address, he said that a teacher and a firefighter should not pay the same tax rate as a millionaire and a billionaire.
So you're not going to raise property taxes, but you will have to raise taxes?
Well, what we're gonna have to do is to find the revenue from individuals that have the means to actually contribute to a safer city. Seventy-percent of large corporations in the state of Illinois did not pay a corporate tax."
It's a classic example of Democrats in action: make big promises, dodge questions, and then tax the middle-class citizens to pay for them. It's an insult to working-class taxpayers and it's an insult to justice.
And if Johnson has his way, Chicagoans will be paying even more taxes than they already are. Johnson's policies are a slap in the face to taxpayers and a sign that the Democrats are more interested in their own power than in the safety of the citizens they claim to serve.
