Rep. Green Discusses Trump’s Gaza Proposal
Well, that didn’t take long. Just over two weeks into President Donald Trump’s second term, House Democrats are already dusting off their favorite political tool—impeachment.
Leading the charge? Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who has made impeaching Trump something of a personal mission. Green took to the House floor on Wednesday to announce that he was introducing articles of impeachment, citing Trump’s proposed plan for the United States to take over Gaza as the catalyst for his latest effort.
“The movement to impeach the president has begun,” Green declared dramatically. “I rise to announce that I will bring Articles of Impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”
His specific grievance? Trump’s suggestion—made alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a press conference—that the U.S. take control of Gaza, clear out unexploded munitions, level the destroyed buildings, and transform the war-torn strip into an economic development hub that would provide jobs and housing.

“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out,” Trump said. “Do a real job, do something different.”
But Green and other Democrats latched onto an earlier remark made by Trump in an Oval Office meeting with Netanyahu, where he floated the idea of relocating the entire population of Gaza to safer areas—a suggestion, notably, that he clarified was not about harming anyone but rather ensuring they could have a better quality of life elsewhere.
“We’re talking about probably 1.7 million people,” Trump told reporters. “I think they’ll be resettled in areas where they can live a beautiful life and not be worried about dying every day.”
Now, let’s take a step back for some perspective here.
Al Green has been obsessed with impeaching Trump for years. During Trump’s first term, Green introduced multiple impeachment resolutions—all of which failed. He did, however, live to see Trump get impeached twice (though not on his own articles)—first over Ukraine and then over January 6—both of which ended in acquittal by a Republican-led Senate.
And now, here he is again, repeating the same stunt, despite the fact that Republicans control both the House and Senate and are highly unlikely to take this latest push seriously.
That reality didn’t escape Elon Musk, now spearheading Trump’s government spending crackdown in his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). When a video of Green’s impeachment announcement surfaced on X, Musk summed up what much of the country was thinking with two simple words:
“Nobody cares.”
And he’s right.
Democrats may try to revive their impeachment playbook, but with Trump now firmly in the driver’s seat, the likelihood of this going anywhere? Zero.
