Trump Comments On Byron Donalds Decision

Well, well, well—looks like President Donald Trump is making moves in Florida, and he’s got his sights set on Congressman Byron Donalds as the state’s next governor.

In a Truth Social post Thursday evening, Trump didn’t just throw out a casual endorsement—he practically drafted Donalds into the race, calling on the staunch conservative to step up and carry the America First torch in the Sunshine State.

And let’s be clear: when Trump backs someone in Florida, it matters. This is his home turf, and his influence in the state is second to none. He’s fresh off a dominant victory in the GOP primary, his political machine is firing on all cylinders, and with Governor Ron DeSantis term-limited, the field is wide open. Trump sees an opportunity to solidify his influence in Florida politics for years to come, and he wants Donalds to be the guy to do it.

“As Governor, Byron would have a BIG Voice, and would work closely with me to advance our America First Agenda,” Trump said. And he didn’t stop there—he laid out exactly what he expects from a Donalds governorship: securing the border, cracking down on migrant crime, strengthening the military, protecting veterans, restoring economic dominance, unleashing American energy, and defending the Second Amendment. In other words, Trump wants a fighter, not a milquetoast Republican who plays nice with the establishment.

Now, let’s talk numbers. Trump shared a Victory Insights poll earlier this week showing Donalds dominating a hypothetical Republican primary, pulling in 31% of the vote—way ahead of Florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez (4%) and state Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson (3%).

But here’s the kicker: nobody has officially announced yet. Not Donalds, not Nuñez, not Simpson. Trump is clearing the runway for Donalds to take off, and if the congressman jumps in, he’ll have the MAGA base locked up from Day One.

Donalds, a member of the House Freedom Caucus and one of the most vocal America First conservatives in Congress, is in his third term representing Florida’s 19th District.

He’s never shied away from a fight—whether it’s calling out the left’s radical agenda or standing strong against weak-kneed Republicans who cave to the D.C. establishment. If he runs, expect him to lean in hard on Trump’s endorsement and frame himself as the true conservative successor to DeSantis.
