Ted Cruz Comments On Trump Report and Negotiations
Sen. Ted Cruz issued a stark warning to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, urging him to rethink his approach toward President Donald Trump if he wants to secure continued U.S. support.
Speaking on Fox Business with Larry Kudlow, Cruz criticized Zelenskyy’s recent comments to European media, where the Ukrainian leader dismissed Trump’s peace efforts and insisted that Ukraine must be directly involved in any negotiations. According to Cruz, that strategy is a mistake.
“I don’t think President Zelensky is doing himself any favors by running to the European press and attacking President Trump,” Cruz said. “You and I both know President Trump very well, and that is a strategy that is almost designed in a lab to produce the opposite of the outcome he’s trying to get.”
Cruz’s remarks come as Trump actively pursues a diplomatic resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, speaking with both Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Despite Trump’s efforts, Zelenskyy has remained skeptical, a position that Cruz argues could backfire, especially as the Biden administration’s foreign policy failures have weakened Ukraine’s standing.
Cruz placed direct blame for the war’s escalation on former President Joe Biden, pointing to his decision to waive sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. “The war in Ukraine was caused by Joe Biden’s weakness, his weakness as commander in chief,” Cruz stated. “It was caused by Joe Biden waving the sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline that runs from Russia to Germany.”
The Texas senator noted that his own sanctions legislation under the Trump administration had successfully halted the pipeline’s construction. But once Biden took office and reversed course, Putin seized the opportunity to advance his geopolitical ambitions.
Despite the tensions, Cruz expressed confidence that the war would soon end, predicting a resolution in the first half of the year.
“We will see this war end, and I think it will end in the first half of this year,” he said. “I think the president is trying to negotiate that resolution. My hope is it is a resolution where the war ends and it is a clear and indisputable loss for Putin and loss for Russia.”
Trump has made global stability a key theme of his campaign, criticizing the foreign conflicts that escalated under the Biden-Harris administration. Zelenskyy, aware of the shifting political landscape, has signaled a willingness to negotiate with the U.S. on economic partnerships, including potential agreements for Ukraine to supply rare earth minerals to the U.S. in exchange for continued financial support.
