Trump Unloads On Zelensky As Ukraine Alliance Crumbles
The alliance between the United States and Ukraine is hitting a new low. President Donald Trump has publicly stated that President Volodymyr Zelensky should be replaced if the war is to end. This shift marks a sharp turn in how Washington views the conflict in Eastern Europe.
Russia is now launching new attacks across Ukraine. The fighting has intensified as the standoff between Trump and Zelensky grows bitter. Moscow is strengthened by Trump's recent rejection of new sanctions. At the same time, Kyiv faces trouble with its drone support. Satellite links for their drones have been disrupted, leaving them vulnerable.
President Trump spoke to reporters on the South Lawn before a trip to Kansas. He did not hold back on his criticism of the Ukrainian leader. Trump said it is time for Ukraine to find a new negotiator. He defended the actions of Russia during the four-year conflict Moscow started. He told the press that Russian behavior has been "fine."
.@POTUS: "Zelensky is a man that should've had this war settled a long time ago. If he would've listened to me, he would've made a much better deal a long time ago and he'd have a million people living... I think it's time for somebody else to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine." https://t.co/uCH6YtXlXy

"Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much," Trump said. He argued that Zelensky missed a chance to end the fighting long ago. The President recalled a heated meeting in the Oval Office in February 2025. In that confrontation, Trump cautioned Zelensky regarding the peril of losing the conflict.
Addressing the press, Trump stated: "Zelensky is a man that should have had this war settled a long time ago." He added that Ukraine is losing its male population. "They're losing their male population." According to him, "Ukraine could have had this thing settled a long time ago." The President made it clear that American aid was the only reason Ukraine was still standing.
"If you didn't have our military equipment, this war would have been over in two weeks," Trump told Zelensky during that past meeting. He further remarked, "I don't think you'd be a tough guy without the United States." Now, he believes the time for the current leadership has passed. "I think it's time for somebody else to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine," Trump said.
The human toll of this conflict remains high. More than 125,000 Ukrainians have died in the war. This number includes civilian casualties. As they attempt to subdue the nation, Russian forces have launched indiscriminate strikes. On Monday, an attack on a park killed 10 people. Among those casualties were two women, including an infant in a stroller.
According to the New York Post, these events are happening as the diplomatic rift widens. The Washington Times stated that the U.S.-Ukraine alliance is careening toward a possible breaking point. NBC News noted that Moscow is taking advantage of the new U.S. stance.
The President's words signal a major change in policy. He suggests that the current path is not working. He believes the Ukrainian leader failed to settle the war when he had the chance. The White House is now pushing for a different approach to negotiations.
Trump remarked, "If he would have listened to me, and you remember the Oval Office, he would have had to settle a long time ago." The message is clear: the current leadership must go for peace to happen. The United States will not continue to prop up a failing strategy forever. The war continues, but the support from the U.S. is now in question.
