Trump Warns He Could Be Last Republican President
President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to his own party that he could be the last Republican president. This is not a threat from the opposition. It is a plea from the leader of the GOP to his own colleagues in the Senate.
Trump has long demanded that Republicans nuke the filibuster. This rule blocks key parts of his agenda. He wants the SAVE America Act to pass. But Democrats and a few Republicans keep stopping it. Now he says silence is no longer an option.
According to Fox News, Trump laid out the math on his social media platform. He said if the Senate does not act, the Democrats will take over the rules. He posted, "If Senate Republicans don't TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, the Dumocrats will, and I will be, despite how well our Party is doing, the last Republican President," Trump said on Truth Social.
He believes the Democrats will add Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico as new states. He noted that D.C. has a 3% Republican vote and Puerto Rico has a 4% Republican vote. If these become states, they would send new senators and congress members who only vote for Democrats. Trump claims this would give Democrats control over the voting systems across the entire country.
Republicans will never be able to win another Election again, he wrote. In other words, it will be THE END OF AMERICA! This is a heavy claim. But he is betting his party is listening. He sees the current blockage as a sign that the firewall is crumbling.
While the Senate fights over rules, voters are angry about something else. A new issue is rising in the midterms. People do not want giant data centers built in their towns. A Gallup Poll found that 70% of Americans do not want these new AI centers in their cities.
Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio spoke to Fox News Digital about this anger. The data center companies have failed to adequately justify why they should be permitted to develop in communities, he said. He wants the decision to stay local, not federal. He informed reporters that the federal government cannot mandate you possess a data center nor forbid you from having one. That's a local decision.
Former Rep. Mike Rogers in Michigan agrees. He told Fox News Digital that he hears "lots and lots of concern about data centers." He wants a pause on building until voters have their questions answered. He is not alone. Many voters worry about rising water and electric bills.
Trump is putting the ball in the Senate's court. He says the Democrats will change the rules if the GOP does not move first. He warns that letting the status quo stay is a death sentence for the party. The SAVE America Act is stuck. The filibuster is the wall. Trump says tear it down now.
