Two Texas Cities Hold Protests Against Trump Policy
As protests over federal immigration enforcement cascade across the nation, a new political front is emerging—and the fault lines are drawing deep. From Manhattan to Los Angeles, and dozens of cities in between, demonstrators took to the streets Monday in response to escalating ICE raids and the increasingly militarized response ordered by President Trump. Meanwhile, Texas has suddenly become a key battleground—not just in the streets, but on the ballot.

In New York City, tensions came to a head as police arrested about two dozen demonstrators outside Trump Tower. Across town and in other boroughs, more ICE-related protests led to additional arrests. The tone was mirrored in cities like Santa Ana, where tear gas filled the air for the second night in a row, and in Austin, where police warned drivers to watch for pedestrians as hundreds rallied in solidarity with those protesting in Los Angeles.

Mass mobilizations also occurred in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Seattle, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and more. At the center of the outcry was David Huerta, president of the SEIU California union, whose arrest during a worksite raid on Friday ignited union-backed protests across more than 30 cities. Released Monday, Huerta's detention has become a rallying point for broader opposition to what critics describe as a draconian immigration agenda.
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, demonstrations continued for the fourth consecutive day. The situation remains volatile. With 4,000 California National Guard troops now federally deployed—including U.S. Marines dispatched by presidential order—Los Angeles is in the grip of the most intense domestic military operation since the 1992 riots.

While protests dominate the headlines, an equally significant political drama is playing out in Texas. Democratic megadonor George Soros is funding an ambitious, multimillion-dollar initiative to flip the traditionally Republican stronghold. The Texas Majority PAC, backed by Soros, teamed up with the Texas Democratic Party on Monday to launch “Blue Texas,” an eight-figure campaign targeting state and federal races in 2026.
The initiative’s immediate focus includes voter mobilization and registration, with kickoff rallies scheduled in key urban counties like Harris (Houston), Dallas, and Travis (Austin). Next month, the “Turn Texas Blue” tour will expand its reach to over 24 cities, including historically conservative regions like Amarillo, Lubbock, and Midland/Odessa.

At the heart of the strategy is the belief that Attorney General Ken Paxton, now leading incumbent Senator John Cornyn in GOP primary polls, could be a liability in the general election. With Trump returning to the top of the ticket and Paxton potentially weakening GOP turnout, Democrats see a rare opening. “With Trump back in the White House and Ken Paxton dragging down the GOP ticket, we have a massive opportunity to win in 2026,” said Katherine Fischer of the Texas Majority PAC.
