Vance Comments After Harris Decision
Let’s talk about some sizzling political drama heating up the 2024 election. Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance has come out swinging against his Democratic counterpart, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her newly announced running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Vance is not pulling any punches, calling Harris and Walz a "tag team" who, in his view, enabled the chaos and destruction that swept across the nation during the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020.
Let’s rewind a bit. After the tragic death of George Floyd in May 2020, protests erupted across the United States, with Minneapolis and St. Paul at the epicenter. In Minnesota, Governor Walz faced intense criticism for his delayed response to the escalating violence. It took several days before he called in the National Guard, and by then, the damage was done—hundreds of businesses across the Twin Cities had been looted or destroyed.

This situation wasn’t just a headache for Walz; it also brought scrutiny to then-Senator Kamala Harris. At the time, Harris promoted the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a bail fund that helped protesters—including those involved in the more destructive aspects of the riots—get out of jail. This move didn’t sit well with many Americans who saw it as tacit support for the chaos on the streets.
Fast forward to today, and JD Vance is using this history to his advantage. In his reaction to the Harris-Walz ticket, Vance didn’t mince words, saying, "They make an interesting tag team because, of course, Tim Walz allowed rioters to burn down Minneapolis in the summer of 2020. And then, the few who got caught, Kamala Harris helped them out of jail." This sharp critique has quickly become a viral sensation on social media, with many conservatives cheering Vance on for what they see as a potent jab at the Democratic duo.

Vance also pointed out what he sees as Harris’s shortcomings, saying, "She doesn't care about the border. She doesn't care about crime, she doesn't care about American energy. And most importantly, she doesn't care about the Americans who have been made to suffer under those policies." This broadside against Harris is part of a larger Republican strategy to paint the Biden-Harris administration as out of touch with the concerns of everyday Americans.
The response to Vance’s comments has been intense, with figures like Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., calling the Harris-Walz ticket the "‘mostly peaceful’ ticket," a nod to the media’s description of the 2020 protests. Retired U.S. Army Colonel James Hutton also weighed in, accusing both Harris and Walz of having "an affinity for rioters."
Great line from @JDVance.

Even some unlikely voices are chiming in. Dr. Naomi Wolf, a feminist commentator, praised Vance’s remarks as "really really good tight campaign soundbites." It seems Vance’s critique has struck a chord, cutting across usual partisan lines.
