Walz Comments In 2018 Raise Questions: Report
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s dive into a topic that’s stirring up some waves in the political world. It all revolves around Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who’s currently in the spotlight after a video emerged showing him praising a Muslim cleric, Imam Asad Zaman, during his 2018 gubernatorial campaign. This video has raised some eyebrows, and here’s why.
The video in question shows Walz speaking at an event hosted by the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, where he calls Imam Zaman a “master teacher.” Walz speaks highly of Zaman, mentioning their shared history and expressing his admiration. On the surface, this might seem like a simple gesture of respect. However, it’s the context surrounding Imam Zaman that has sparked controversy.
Woof. Even CNN has turned on him.

Zaman has a history of sharing content on social media that many consider deeply problematic. Back in 2015, he shared a link to a neo-Nazi propaganda film that portrayed Adolf Hitler in a positive light. Then in 2016, he shared a press release from Hamas mourning the death of a Bangladeshi politician who had been executed for war crimes.
More recently, in the wake of the October 7 attacks by Hamas on Israel, Zaman shared posts on social media that were critical of Israel, aligning himself with Palestinian resistance.
Given this background, Walz’s past praise for Zaman has come under scrutiny. Critics are questioning whether it was appropriate for Walz to speak so highly of a figure who has shared antisemitic content. This issue is particularly sensitive now, as Walz has been chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, putting him in the national spotlight.
When asked about this situation, both Walz and Zaman have downplayed the significance of their relationship. Walz’s campaign team clarified that he and Zaman do not have a personal relationship, and Walz has strongly condemned Hamas terrorism.
Zaman, on his part, explained that he sometimes shares social media content without fully reviewing it and emphasized that his faith and personal convictions are against desiring harm to any group of people.
But the story doesn’t end there. Walz and Zaman have been seen together at multiple events over the years, including discussions about security concerns at local mosques and joint appearances during crises like the killing of George Floyd. This repeated association is raising questions about the nature of their relationship and whether Walz’s past comments reflect poorly on his judgment.
In politics, optics matter. While Walz’s praise for Zaman might have been well-intentioned at the time, the revelation of Zaman’s controversial social media activity is now causing a stir.
