Walz Holds Town Hall With Beto O’Rourke
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz appears to be laying the groundwork for a 2028 presidential run, despite his repeated denials. Recent travels, town halls, and media appearances suggest he’s positioning himself as a prominent national voice for the Democratic Party—though whether that’s a strategic move or a political miscalculation remains to be seen.
Walz was the vice-presidential pick on the failed 2024 Harris-Walz ticket, a campaign that suffered significant losses, including in key swing states. His rising profile comes at a time when the Democratic Party is struggling to recalibrate after a decisive electoral defeat—one that many attribute, in part, to the very policies and rhetoric Walz is now doubling down on.

Speaking at a recent event in Texas alongside Beto O’Rourke, another unsuccessful Democratic figure, Walz re-emphasized the platform that cost Democrats dearly in 2024. He criticized the party for not defending its stances on hot-button issues like immigration, diversity initiatives, and so-called “woke” policies, stating, “You're damn right, we're proud of these policies!”
That message may resonate with parts of the progressive base, but it runs counter to the broader national sentiment that rejected these policies just months ago. By reaffirming positions that a majority of voters rejected, Walz risks anchoring Democrats further to the very ideas that led to their recent losses.

In addition to policy missteps, Walz’s public messaging has drawn scrutiny. His remarks about being able to physically overpower Trump supporters, as well as his attempt to criticize Tesla—a company employing thousands of Americans and linked to Minnesota’s own pension fund—have raised questions about his judgment and political strategy.
The Texas event also veered into controversial territory. When an attendee implied election fraud had occurred in 2024, Walz did not refute the claim, instead shifting blame to former President Trump and suggesting the need for civic action. His ambiguous remarks about “taking power to the streets” left room for interpretation, raising eyebrows even among centrists.

Walz further alienated potential voters by making a disparaging comment about “old white guys,” saying they “disappoint us on a regular basis.” The statement, clearly meant to pander to the crowd, sparked backlash for its divisive tone and lack of self-awareness.
