What To Know About Jill Biden’s Tell-All ‘Memoir’
Former First Lady Jill Biden is preparing to share her perspective on one of the most dramatic political moments in recent American history: her husband’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. In a new memoir scheduled for release in early June, she says readers will hear a more complete version of the events that unfolded during Joe Biden’s final months as president and the turbulent campaign season that followed.
The book, titled “View from the East Wing: A Memoir,” is set to be published on June 2. According to the Associated Press, Jill Biden describes the project as a deeply personal reflection on her four years serving as first lady. The memoir is expected to recount both the public responsibilities of the role and the private moments she shared with her husband during a presidency defined by intense political divisions and global challenges.
Speaking with the AP, the former first lady explained that writing the book served as an emotional process. She characterized the experience as cathartic, noting that the memoir includes accounts of both difficult periods and what she described as many meaningful and beautiful moments from their time in the White House.
Jill Biden also suggested that the book aims to address narratives that have circulated about the administration and her husband’s presidency. In a video posted to Instagram, she said she wanted to “set the record straight,” emphasizing that while portions of the story have already been told publicly, other elements remain largely unknown to the public.
According to her comments, the memoir seeks to present what she described as a more balanced portrayal of Joe Biden’s presidency and the pressures that ultimately led to his decision to step aside during the 2024 campaign.
Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race in July 2024 marked a turning point in that year’s election cycle. The decision followed weeks of mounting concern among Democratic leaders after a widely criticized debate performance against then-Republican candidate Donald Trump. As questions about Biden’s ability to continue the campaign intensified, party figures increasingly urged him to step aside.
Biden ultimately ended his campaign just months before the election, immediately endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. Harris went on to lead the ticket in what became one of the shortest general election campaigns in modern American history, lasting just 107 days before the November vote. She ultimately lost the race to Trump.
In the time since leaving office, both Joe and Jill Biden have addressed ongoing speculation about his health and capacity during the final year of his presidency. During an appearance on “The View” in May 2025, the former president dismissed claims that health concerns played a role in his decision.
“There’s nothing to sustain that,” Biden said when asked about allegations regarding his condition. He pointed instead to the challenges his administration inherited, including the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the political turmoil surrounding the January 6 attack.
Jill Biden also strongly criticized books and reporting that questioned her husband’s health during his time in office. She argued that many of the authors behind those claims had not witnessed the daily routine of the presidency firsthand. According to her account, the former president maintained a demanding schedule, often continuing to review briefings and communicate with staff late into the evening.
