Holt Asks Biden About Trump Offer
Let’s talk about the latest development in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.
President Joe Biden has made it clear that he will not be debating Donald Trump before their scheduled showdown in September. This decision comes amid growing scrutiny over Biden’s mental fitness, especially following his challenging performance in the June 27 debate against Trump.
In an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, Biden firmly stated that he is sticking to the original debate schedule.
When asked if he would accept Trump’s offer to debate again in the next few weeks, Biden responded, “I’m going to debate him when we agreed to debate and I’m going to debate him in September.” The second and final presidential debate between Trump and Biden is set for September 10.
Holt pressed Biden further, asking if he felt the need to “get back on the horse” after the previous debate. Biden’s response was confident: “I’m on the horse, where have you been? I’ve done 22 major events, met thousands of people, overwhelming crowds, a lot’s happening. I’m on the horse.” This assertive stance is part of Biden’s effort to demonstrate that he is still fit to lead the country, despite lingering concerns about his re-election chances.

The June 27 debate was a tough moment for Biden, sparking questions about his mental acuity. His performance led to calls from over a dozen Democrats in Congress for him to drop out of the race, a suggestion Biden has firmly rejected.
Instead, he is doubling down on showing the American people that he remains capable and in command.
“What I’m doing is going out and demonstrating to the American people that I have command of all my faculties, that I don’t need notes, I don’t need teleprompters, I can go out and answer any questions,” Biden said in his NBC interview. This statement underscores his determination to prove his critics wrong and reassure his supporters.
