Brandon Gill and Tom Emmer Target Democrats at RNC Speeches
Republican leaders took the stage in Dallas on Wednesday to name specific Democrats they believe threaten American values. Texas Rep. Brandon Gill and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer delivered sharp critiques of their opponents during the opening night of the convention.
Gill focused his remarks on Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, who identifies as a Christian but holds left-wing views. The Daily Signal reported that Gill called Talarico's approach to faith "extreme and deplorable." He mocked Talarico's belief that God is non-binary and that capitalism must be dismantled.
"Here in Texas, we have James 'God-is-non-binary-we-need-to-dismantle-capitalism' Talarico," Gill said. He claimed Talarico would strip a person's Christian faith away, wearing it as a skin suit. Gill also questioned how anyone with such disdain for the country could be trusted to govern. He pointed to the White House lawn being turned into a "Transgender Day of Visibility" on Easter Sunday as proof of this disdain.
Gill did not stop at Talarico. He also targeted Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, calling him an extremist who sympathized with terrorists. While appearing on CNN, The Daily Signal noted that El-Sayed failed to mention the passing of former Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Gill highlighted El-Sayed's past campaign appearances with streamer Hasan Piker, who once said America deserved 9/11.
"Now we have to admit that every party has their crazies, the difference is that the Democratic Party nominates theirs to Congress," Gill said. He made it clear that the party is selecting these individuals to run for office.
Tom Emmer followed with a stark warning about the rise of socialism within the Democratic Party. The Daily Signal reported that Emmer framed the upcoming election as a choice between common sense and communism. He told the crowd that the choice was also between freedom and tyranny.
Emmer listed specific policy goals he attributed to democratic socialists. These include defunding the police, opening the borders, and abolishing the Senate. He also mentioned raising taxes to fund free health care for illegal immigrants. Emmer stated that there is absolutely nothing democratic about socialism.
"Do not let them do it. There is absolutely nothing democratic about socialism," he said. He singled out Rep. Ilhan Omar and Abdul El-Sayed by name. Emmer argued that El-Sayed's ties to Hasan Piker show a lack of love for the country.
"Someone might want to remind these guys, if you don't love this country, if you don't love America, get the hell out," Emmer said. He urged the American people to choose the Republican agenda over what he called the limited offerings of communists.
Emmer closed his speech by focusing on the nation's founding principles. According to him, economic freedom, individual liberty, and hard work remain significant. He expressed confidence that the party would win in November.
