DOJ Smacks Down Illegal Voting As 48 Noncitizens Charged
The Justice Department charged 48 non-U.S. citizens with illegal voting and fraud on Monday. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter said every illegal vote cancels out a lawful citizen's vote. The move targets people across five states who cast ballots they were not allowed to touch.
Most of those arrested are lawful permanent residents holding green cards, not illegal immigrants. Forty-seven of the 48 people charged fall into this group, per the Washington Examiner. Only one person charged was illegally present in the United States at the time of the offense.
California accounts for more than half of these cases, with 28 green-card holders charged there. The effort is part of a pre-election push to clean voter rolls, according to the Washington Examiner.
Prosecutors say many defendants lied on citizenship applications about their voting history. Omar Alexander Muñoz, 72, allegedly voted four times while claiming to be a citizen. Maricela Nazarín González, 43, is accused of voting in 2022 and twice in 2024 before lying on her application.
SCOOP: The Justice Department just charged 48 foreigners with illegally voting in American elections and registering to cast ballots, @realDailyWire is first to report.
The accused are located in Nevada, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, and New York. All but one of the accused are lawful permanent residents.
A single illegal immigrant was among those charged, according to a list provided by the Justice Department. Cuban national Alfredo Santiesteban, 73, allegedly cast a ballot in the 2024 general election.

In 2017, Rony de Jesús Sicaja signed up, casting ballots during the 2022 primary as well as the 2024 general election. Camino Giles Jiménez is accused of voting in three elections, including a June 2026 primary, per RedState. At age 73, Alfredo Santiesteban is accused of voting in the 2024 general election.
Eoin Cranney, 35, admitted "in substance and in part" that he knew he lacked citizenship when he voted. According to the Daily Wire, he registered through fraud and participated in the 2024 federal general election held in New York. Maribel del Carmen Garcés Barriga, 62, registered in 2024 and then lied about voting on her citizenship form.
Trent McCotter, who acts as Deputy Attorney General, stated that the current charges demonstrate the dangers of such a refusal, as these fraud cases directly affect federal election results for the presidency, Senate, and House. Noncitizens are not allowed to vote in these contests under federal law.
Some allegations involve the 2024 presidential election, which affects the direction of our entire country. U.S. This theft changes who wins office and what laws get passed for our families.
The Department of Justice is moving fast to stop these actions before the next election cycle. First Assistant U.S. Attorney officials in Nevada announced another case on Friday charging a foreign national.
