Frank Lutz Report Called Into Question After Details Were Released
The media finally thought they had their golden goose—an American citizen, wrongly detained by ICE for ten days, locked up and ignored until his desperate family rode in on horseback with a birth certificate and Social Security card in hand. The headlines practically wrote themselves: “ICE Detains U.S. Citizen,” “Trump’s Deportation Machine Gone Rogue.” It was a tailor-made scandal, just in time for a fresh political news cycle.
“He did say he was a U.S. citizen, but they didn't believe him.”
An American citizen named Jose in Arizona was detained by immigration officials for 10 days. His family later provided officials with his birth certificate and Social Security card.https://t.co/dWi6aNz4lX

But then—thud—reality dropped like an anvil. Turns out Jose Hermosillo, the alleged innocent in this political melodrama, told ICE he was in the country illegally. And not just in passing. He signed a sworn statement detailing how he crossed the border illegally looking for work.
Game. Set. Narrative obliterated.
Now, why would someone do that? That’s anyone’s guess. Maybe he was hiding something. Maybe he panicked. Maybe he just didn’t realize the consequences of what he was saying. But here’s what we do know: federal agents acted on the information he gave them. He said he was an illegal immigrant. He signed a paper saying he was an illegal immigrant. He constructed an entire false narrative. What were officials supposed to do—plug into his cerebral cortex and extract the truth via telepathy?
NEW: Here is a copy of the sworn statement signed by Jose Hermosillo. During questioning, which was done in Spanish, Hermosillo stated he:
-Was born in Mexico
-Was not a U.S. citizen
-Crossed the border illegally via the desert
-Wanted work
-Was in the U.S. illegally https://t.co/yR9L31XTYc pic.twitter.com/BCSZoStYjh— Julio Rosas (@Julio_Rosas11) April 21, 2025
Let’s be clear. No one in their right mind wants American citizens unjustly detained by the federal government. But when the supposed “victim” lies under oath and hands law enforcement a ready-made justification to hold him, the blame doesn’t lie with the officers—it lies with the man in the holding cell.
This wasn’t some Orwellian crackdown or overzealous federal roundup. It was a textbook case of someone handing the government a signed confession and then waiting ten days before his family decided to correct the record. That’s not systemic abuse. That’s self-inflicted.

And yet, the left-wing press jumped in with both feet, dancing to the beat of their favorite drum—Trump is evil, ICE is racist, and immigration enforcement is a human rights violation. They ran with it. Democrats echoed it. Social media erupted.
But as usual, the facts didn’t keep up with the frenzy. This wasn't a civil rights violation. It was a procedural response to someone actively misleading authorities. And for those still pointing fingers, ask yourself: if someone confessed to a crime and signed their name to it, would you demand that police ignore it?
