LA Disney Themed Cafe Closes
Grab a cup of coffee and settle in because we’ve got a nostalgic yet bittersweet tale from Hollywood. The legendary Snow White Café, a beloved gem on Hollywood Boulevard, appears to have closed its doors after 78 magical years. This iconic spot, famous for its murals painted by Disney artists, seems to have become the latest casualty of LA’s business downturn.
Photos surfaced recently showing the café, located at 6769 Hollywood Boulevard, completely gutted. All its iconic imagery, which delighted tourists and locals alike, seems to have been stripped away. The café originally opened in 1946 by a friend of Walt Disney’s, who enlisted Disney’s animators to paint scenes from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" on its walls. This enchanting setting, coupled with its good food, made it a must-visit spot right on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Despite its storied past, the Snow White Café has joined the growing list of LA businesses facing unceremonious closures. This news has hit hard, especially for those who cherished the café’s unique charm and history. The restaurant’s phone line now appears disconnected, and while its Instagram account is down, its Facebook page remains active, nostalgically touting its fairytale setting and American fare.
KTLA, the first to report the rumored closure, got confirmation from a staffer at the neighboring Hollywood Wax Museum that the café, usually bustling with visitors, was inexplicably closed. Vintage Los Angeles posted photos of the gutted storefront, sending shockwaves through the community.
One onlooker lamented, “This is sad. I do hope someone saved the sweet artwork inside. I'm glad I visited last September.” Another, from Australia, shared, “Noooo, I'm from Australia & was only there last November, was such a cute and quirky little place!”
Many fond memories are tied to the Snow White Café, from serving what some say is the best hamburger in LA to hosting celebrities like Jeff Bridges and Holly Madison. Bridges even spoke outside the café during a 2017 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony honoring John Goodman.
This closure comes on the heels of another iconic Hollywood eatery, the Arby’s Roast Beef on Sunset, closing just a few weeks ago after 55 years. It’s a reflection of broader issues in LA, including rising violent crime rates and business challenges. The LAPD recorded a 2.9% increase in violent crime at the end of March 2024 compared to the previous year, and thefts were up 9.5% as of the last update.
The closure of the Snow White Café marks the end of an era for many. A message that once hung over its doors seems like a fitting sendoff: “We hope we have pleased you.” This little piece of Disney magic will be sorely missed by all who walked through its doors and experienced its unique blend of history and whimsy.
