Media Meltdown Over Trump's Pool Joke Sparks Outrage
You expected a final, serious plea to voters. Instead, you got a joke about renaming a national landmark. President Donald Trump stood before the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on Monday. He told the crowd he might change its name. Then he laughed and said he was kidding. The media called it a lie. They said he threatened a major rename. The truth is right there in what he actually said.
Trump spent about 20 minutes showing photos of the pool before the restoration. He called it one of his "beautification" pet projects. Then he dropped the line. "We're giving serious thought to changing the name to the Trump Reflecting Pool," the president said. He followed it up fast. "I'm only kidding, I'm only kidding, please don't report it," Trump said. According to the Washington Examiner, he claimed on Tuesday he would reveal the renaming, though moments later admitted it was a joke.
Why did he skip the big rally in Michigan? On Monday, Trump intended to travel to Michigan for a concluding rally. Instead, he opted to deliver an unusual address at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. He then hosted nine tele-rallies in close congressional contests. On Monday, "The entire calendar was done in pencil, and especially late in the month" was stated by another senior White House official to The Post.
The official explained the move. "And for today, and some yesterday, the schedule moved around to include telerallies [because] he can cover so much more ground," a second senior White House official told The Post on Monday. According to reports, the last presidential stop was never confirmed. Some sources close to Trump claimed he had become "bored" with ordinary speeches after 29 visits.
Trump took to Truth Social to set the record straight. He accosted the Daily Mail for their reporting. He corrected the crowd size. "It wasn't a 'Final Midterms Speech] that only had 60 people, it was a NEWS CONFERENCE, nobody was invited, it was closed to the Public — Just Reporters," Trump wrote.
He pointed to his real final speech. "My Final Midterms Speech was the day before in Iowa and Kansas, where we had 50,000 people," Trump wrote. The media coverage missed the mark. "This just shows you how FAKE the News is," Trump wrote. He noted he was clear. "The Fake News is so corrupt!" Trump wrote.
Beyond the pool joke, Trump laid out the stakes. He highlighted his administration's accomplishments in its first 20 months. "The Democrat Party has nominated the most extreme and dangerous slate of candidates in American history," he said. "These are the most dangerous candidates ever put up," he said. He listed the threats. "There's never been anything like what we're seeing: jihadists and Muslim Brotherhood members and people that nobody can even believe what we're looking at, and all committed to the same radical agenda," he added.
He talked about open borders and taxes. He mentioned the One Big Beautiful Bill. "We've gone 17 months without one person entering our country illegally from the southern border," he said. "Before that, it was 25 million came in, and they came in from mental institutions and prisons, and they were drug dealers, very sick people in many ways," he said. The media wanted a story about a name change. The voters heard a warning about the future.
