New Details Emerge In Food Network Star’s Death
The details emerging from Anne Burrell’s death paint a sequence that is both specific and difficult to ignore, built from a combination of physical evidence, video footage, and official findings.
According to materials released by the NYPD and reported by People, the scene inside Burrell’s Brooklyn apartment showed a concentration of over-the-counter medications in the bathroom area.
Pills were found in a dish near the toilet, alongside bottles of common drugs such as Advil, Zyrtec, and Motrin, some of them lying on their sides. Nearby, cigarette butts and a lighter were also documented. The arrangement of these items became part of the broader reconstruction of her final hours.
Video footage from the building added another layer. It showed Burrell and her husband, Stuart Claxton, returning home the evening before her death. In the lobby and elevator, her posture appeared subdued—leaning against walls, largely still.
At one point, she seemed as if she might respond to Claxton but stopped short. The footage does not include audio, but visually, it captured a quiet, contained interaction rather than anything outwardly dramatic.
The medical examiner later determined the cause of death as acute intoxication involving multiple substances: diphenhydramine, cetirizine, ethanol, and amphetamine. That combination, taken together, formed the basis for the ruling.
Investigators also reported finding a note and journal entries described as suicidal in nature. These were located in the main bedroom, alongside observations about the state of the room itself—details that stood out to Claxton, who told police certain things appeared out of the ordinary that morning.
Claxton’s account, as included in the report, emphasized that he had not seen prior signs. He told investigators she had never attempted suicide and had not spoken about it. When he found her unresponsive on the bathroom floor, he attempted to wake her before calling emergency services.
No allegations of wrongdoing have been made against him.
