Democrats did everything they could to disrupt President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress on Tuesday night, but in the end, all they accomplished was getting one of their own ejected and earning themselves a series of withering glares from Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

The spectacle began almost immediately as Rep. Al Green (D-TX) attempted to make a scene, only to find himself swiftly removed from the chamber just moments after Trump began speaking. With their most vocal agitator gone, the remaining Democrats sat in near silence—though a few couldn’t resist the occasional boo. Many held up auction paddle-style signs featuring predictable slogans attacking Trump’s policies, but their efforts to rattle the president fell flat.

Trump, always one to call out theatrics, addressed the hostility head-on early in his remarks. “You’re never going to clap for me, no matter how great our accomplishments are,” he remarked, before powering through his speech undeterred. The attempted disruptions faded into the background as Trump laid out his vision, while Vance and Johnson made their disapproval of the Democratic antics unmistakably clear.

Those watching at home quickly took notice of the Republican leadership’s reactions, and social media had a field day with the now-infamous Vance Glance—the icy, unimpressed stare the vice president repeatedly shot toward the Democratic side of the room.
