Student Handouts: Teacher Union Nut Loses Her Sh*t Outside Of Supreme Court
Shouting in rage and frustration outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), let her distaste of the SCOTUS's questioning President Joe Biden’s student loan handout be known. She compared Biden’s plan to the COVID-19 small business loans of 2020, screaming and jumping up and down in the process.
The plan, if passed, would cancel $10,000 in federal student loans for individuals making less than $125,000 per year or households earning less than $250,000 annually as of 2020 or 2021. The cost of this to taxpayers is estimated to be approximately $400 billion over the next three years.
“If we go to college and we stay in college, we need to actually make sure that it's affordable - that it doesn't take everything and everything that our families can do,” Weingarten said. “And so that is why President Biden said we are going to deal with that…”
It is true that during the pandemic Congress passed a stimulus package to help small businesses, providing forgivable loans and other assistance. But it is just as true that the government has a history of overspending and handing out handouts in response to perceived needs.
Biden's student loan handout is just the latest example of this. Not only would it cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, it would also be a huge waste of resources. The money could be better spent in other areas that would benefit more people.
The Supreme Court is currently hearing two challenges to Biden’s student loan debt handout. The cases involve questions about whether the Department of Education was authorized by Congress to advance the rule implementing Biden’s plan and followed the proper regulatory procedures.
The GOP, for one, does not agree with Biden's plan. Republicans argue that the government should not be responsible for canceling student loan debt and that the money should be spent on other programs that would benefit more people.
The bottom line is that Biden's student loan handout is a waste of money and resources. It does not solve the problem of student loan debt, and it does not help the American people in any meaningful way. It is just another example of the government trying to buy votes, and it is not a sustainable solution.
