Trump Issues Statement Following Protests In Los Angeles

President Donald Trump has made his most forceful move yet in the escalating immigration crisis gripping Los Angeles. In a fiery statement posted to Truth Social, Trump announced that he has directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Department of Justice to mobilize federal resources to suppress what he calls an “invasion” of criminal migrants and the violent riots aimed at obstructing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.

Trump’s language was stark: “A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals.” He went on to describe the violent mobs attacking federal agents as “insurrectionist,” vowing not only to restore order but to expel those who entered the country illegally.


The president stated unequivocally that federal authorities, under the leadership of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, have been given the green light to “liberate Los Angeles” from the chaos, promising that “Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free.”


The announcement followed a weekend of violent confrontations. According to Breitbart News and confirmed local outlets, ICE raids throughout Los Angeles triggered explosive backlash. Protesters lit fires, hurled objects at law enforcement, and warned migrants about active raids. In one particularly jarring video captured by KTLA, a vehicle burned in the center of an intersection while officers stood in formation nearby as demonstrators taunted and pelted police cruisers with debris.

Over 40 arrests were made on Friday alone as ICE agents executed search warrants and apprehended criminal aliens—some of whom have documented histories of sexual assault, weapons charges, and gang affiliation.


In an unprecedented step, Trump federalized 2,000 California National Guard troops and deployed them into Los Angeles to secure the area for continued ICE operations. Though the move was hailed by immigration hardliners as a necessary step, it sparked a backlash from California officials.


Governor Gavin Newsom blasted the decision, calling it a political stunt: “The federal government is taking over the California National Guard… not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle.” He urged demonstrators to “never use violence” and to continue “speaking out peacefully.”


The operation signals not only a dramatic federal reassertion of immigration enforcement power but a broader constitutional showdown over the limits of state versus federal authority. By federalizing the National Guard without a request from the governor, Trump has invoked powers rarely used in domestic situations outside of natural disasters or insurrections.


The administration is framing this effort not just as law enforcement, but as a national security operation aimed at repelling an organized “migrant invasion.” That terminology, paired with the ongoing effort to invoke the Alien Enemies Act, further underscores the administration’s plan to use wartime legal frameworks to expedite deportations and override local resistance.
