Video Of Senator Raises Eyebrows
Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) is no stranger to political grandstanding, but his latest flip-flop on government shutdowns has left even casual observers shaking their heads. A resurfaced video from 2023 shows Schiff passionately warning against the devastating consequences of a shutdown under President Joe Biden.
Federal workers, TSA employees, and military personnel, he said at the time, would be left in financial limbo. Yet now, with President Donald Trump back in the White House and another shutdown looming, Schiff is suddenly shifting the blame entirely to Republicans.
The contrast between Schiff’s past statements and his current rhetoric is striking. In the 2023 video, Schiff made it clear that government shutdowns were disastrous, directly hurting Americans.
“Had the government shut down, hundreds of thousands of people would have not gotten their paychecks. Federal employees would have been furloughed, sent home. Others deemed essential, like TSA workers, they would have been forced to go to work and not paid,” he warned.
Fast forward to today, and Schiff’s concern for those workers appears to have evaporated. In a recent TikTok video, Schiff took an entirely different stance, placing full responsibility for the shutdown threat on the Republican-controlled Congress and, of course, President Trump.
“So is the government shutting down? Well, that depends on Donald Trump and the Republicans. They control the White House. They control the House. They control the Senate. It’s really up to them,” he claimed, glossing over the reality that government funding negotiations are never that simple.
Schiff went on to accuse Republicans of pushing a “partisan resolution” that adjusted funding levels and limited Congress’s ability to override Trump’s tariffs. Conveniently, he ignored the fact that Democrats have used their own partisan budget tactics in the past, including when they controlled both the White House and the Senate just last year.
Critics wasted no time pointing out Schiff’s blatant hypocrisy. Social media erupted with mockery, with one user quipping, “If you look in a dictionary for the meaning of ‘hypocrisy’ you’ll see the face of Adam Schiff.” Another user joked, “Can’t believe a word any DemocRAT says, especially Adam ‘Pencil Neck’ Schiff, a proven and serial liar.”
The frustration isn’t just about Schiff’s selective outrage—it’s about the broader pattern of Democrats applying one set of rules when they’re in power and another when they’re not. Under Biden, a government shutdown was an unacceptable crisis. Under Trump, it’s suddenly a GOP responsibility. The inconsistency is impossible to ignore.
Government shutdowns happen when Congress fails to pass necessary funding bills, halting non-essential operations and leaving federal employees without pay. History shows that shutdowns stem from political disputes over budget priorities—whether it was the 2013 standoff over the Affordable Care Act or the 2018-2019 battle over border wall funding. Now, the clock is ticking once again, with Congress facing a Friday deadline to pass new spending legislation or risk another shutdown.
