Bill Maher Breaks Silence On Trump's Crime Drop Just Now

The liberal talk host admitted that Donald Trump's "no more Mr. Nice Guy" approach helped drive a steep drop in violent crime across America. He called the president a "badass." He said the tough image scared criminals. This is where it changes.

Violent crime has seen a sustained decline starting in 2022. Now, a prominent liberal voice is giving credit where it is due. He says the "FAFO president" made a difference. Maher broke down the reasons on his HBO show, "Real Time with Bill Maher." He pointed to a mix of policies that rarely happen in Washington. He called it "accidental bipartisanship." He gave Democrats credit for making Narcan, a drug for overdose emergencies, more available. "We found something better, Narcan, and Democrats fast-tracked it, that's contributed a lot to the huge decrease in drug deaths," he said, according to the Washington Examiner.

But he did not stop there. He credited the Trump administration for stopping illegal drugs from entering the country. "But so did closing the border. And deporting gang bangers. And disrupting supply. Narcan worked, and law enforcement worked," Maher stated. He noted that it is not just drug crime that is down. "And it's not just drug crime that's way down; it's all crime that's down," he added, according to the New York Post. He also blamed technology. "It's because you can't move two inches in America without being tracked, photographed, and followed by a Flock camera," Maher continued, according to RedState.

Here is the thing. Maher believes the president's personality played a huge role. He told his audience that it is "childish to pretend" that a tough leader does not deter bad behavior. He described Trump as a "'no more Mr. Nice Guy-booting-your-ass-V-for-vendetta-kick-ass—and-take-names-say-hello-to-my-little-friend' president." He even joked about the president staging UFC fights on the White House lawn. "He has UFC fights on the [White House] lawn," Maher noted.

Some observers called Maher a "sane, old school liberal" for looking at the facts and giving credit where it is deserved. They said he sees Trump as the "FAFO president." Despite the praise, Maher admitted he does not agree with every method. "Is doing it this way the right thing? No," he said. He stated that this also occurs because fewer desperate individuals exist when Democrats broaden the safety net. Most good news stories get buried. "Good news stories get buried," Maher said, "because they're tainted by cooperation."

He said Democrats and Republicans did not work together. Instead, they stumbled on positive change. "Part of it is reasons beyond politics… but mostly it's because Democrats did some things, and Republicans did other things," he explained. Violent crime has now dropped to 1969 levels. That is a massive shift for families living in these communities. When you see a drop that big, you have to ask why. The answer is not just one party. It is a mix of safety nets, new drugs, and a president who acts like he means business.
